Transmission of letters

The words in the table below shall be used when transmission of individual letters is required:

– The syllables to be emphasized are underlined.





  • If there is no risk of affecting the correct reception and intelligibility of the message, the use of phonetic spelling may be avoided. Example: some abbreviations such as QNH, ILS, QFU, etc.
  • Each letter of the aircraft call sign shall be pronounced separately using the phonetic spelling, with the exception of telephony designator and aircraft type.
