Departure information and engine starting procedures

Where no ATIS is provided the pilot may ask for current aerodrome information before requesting start up.

RUNWAY 26, QNH 1018, WILL CALL FOR START UP, FASTFLY 123

Requests to start engines are normally made to facilitate ATC planning and to avoid fuel wastage by aircraft delayed on the ground. Along with the request, the pilot will state, the location of the aircraft and acknowledge receipt of the ATIS broadcast. When departure of the aircraft is delayed, the controller will indicate a start up time or an expected start up time.

Having received ATC approval, the pilot starts the engines assisted as necessary by ground crew.
