Airways – Part 1
Joining an airway
Aircraft requiring to join an airway or enter controlled airspace should make their request to the appropriate ATS unit. Where no flight plan has been filed, the request should include an airborne flight plan. Where a flight plan has already been filed, an abbreviated call may be made.
Because of the prevailing traffic, a clearance may not be issued immediately.
In the event that the requested flight level is already occupied, the controller should offer an alternative.
