4. Open question
The open question can in some ways be considered an unexpected situation for the candidate. It assessments their ability to understand a question on an unprepared topic and respond.
Assessors should initially read the question exactly as written. Many questions are designed to assessment immediate understanding of more complex structure and vocabulary. If a candidate has difficulty understanding the structure or vocabulary the assessor may rephrase the question in order to elicit a response and interaction. This rephrasing must be taken into account in final marking.
