Part 1: Picture description

Describe these pictures in as much detail as you can

Words which may help you:

  • Fuselage – twin engine – tail fin
  • Mountain – grass – taxiway

You might also find the links to aircraft diagrams in section 4 useful for this exercise.

Questions to think about:

  • What does the aeroplane look like?
  • What type of aircraft is it?
  • What is the weather like?
  • Where do you think the picture was taken? What makes you think this?
  • What can you see in the foreground?
  • What can you see in the background?
  • What can you see in the middle distance?

Words which may help you:

  • Single engine – propeller – fixed gear – high wing – low wing
  • Building – control tower – floodlight
  • Palm tree – hangar – building

Questions to think about:

  • Describe the aircraft you can see
  • What is the vehicle on the left of the photo? Describe it
  • What can you see in the background?
  • What is the weather like?
  • Where do you think the picture was taken? What makes you think this?
  • Where in the airfield was the photograph taken?
  • What can you see on the right of the photo, behind the light aircraft?

Questions to think about:

  • Describe the aircraft
  • Is this a military aircraft? How do you know?
  • What can you see in the bottom left hand corner of the photograph?
  • What do you think is happening in this photo?
  • Where do you think it was taken? Why?
  • At what time of the year do you think it was taken? Why do you think that?

  • Table – seat – seatbelt – screen
  • Plate – glass – napkin – vase
  • Wood – wooden – leather
  • Comfortable – luxury – luxurious

Questions to think about:

  • What type of aircraft do you think this is?
  • Have you ever flown on an aircraft like this? If so, where were you flying? When was this? Was it for work? Or pleasure?
  • Would you like to fly in an aeroplane such as this? Why (not)?
  • What can you see in the middle of the photograph, in the background?
  • What can you see in the foreground, on the righthand side?
  • Describe the table and what is on it
  • Do the plates and glasses seem appropriate for an aeroplane? Why (not)?
  • Would you like to work in business aviation? Why (not)?
